Applies to: The Editcred Chrome Extension, Editcred website, and related services (together, the “Service”)
By installing, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms of Use (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Editcred helps users capture and refine AI-assisted drafts in a structured editor and optionally generate authenticity/provenance artifacts (including cryptographic signing and verification outputs). The Service may include:
- A Chrome side-panel editor and capture tools
- Export tools (e.g., DOCX, web export)
- Optional account features (cloud sync, dashboards)
- Optional “authenticity reports” and provenance verification endpoints
2. Eligibility and Authority
You must be able to form a binding contract to use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization, and “you” includes the organization.
3. Accounts, Sign-In, and Security
3.1 Optional Account
Some features (e.g., cloud sync, public authenticity reports, verified status) may require an account. You agree to provide accurate information and keep it updated.
3.2 Third-Party Authentication
If you sign in using Google or LinkedIn (or other providers), your use is also subject to the provider’s terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services.
3.3 Account Security
You are responsible for safeguarding your account and devices. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized access.
4. Extension Permissions and Policy Compliance
The extension may request permissions (e.g., storage, host access/active tab) to provide user-facing functionality (capture, edit, export, sync). You agree not to use the Service in ways that violate Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies or applicable law.
5. Your Content and Inputs
5.1 Your Content
You may provide or capture content in the Service, including:
- AI prompts, AI responses, and your edited text (“Triads”)
- Documents, block structures, annotations, and exports
- Metadata you choose to associate with documents
You retain ownership of your content as between you and Editcred, subject to the licenses you grant below.
5.2 Sensitive Content
You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use and process any content you provide, including any personal data, confidential information, or copyrighted material. Do not submit content you are not authorized to share.
6. License You Grant to Editcred
You grant Editcred a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, process, reproduce, and display your content only as necessary to provide, maintain, and improve the Service features you use (e.g., local editing, cloud sync, exports, authenticity reports), and to secure and troubleshoot the Service.
If you publish a document or enable public authenticity reporting, you additionally grant Editcred the right to display the publicly enabled materials (as configured by you) for verification and access by third parties (including crawlers), until you disable or delete that public output.
7. Provenance, Signatures, and Authenticity Reports
7.1 What Provenance Means Here
If you choose to finalize/sign a document, the Service may generate cryptographic provenance artifacts (e.g., signatures, hashes, manifests) intended to support verification of integrity and/or provenance (including C2PA-compatible constructs where offered).
7.2 No Guarantee of Universal Acceptance
Verification standards, platforms, and search engines may interpret provenance artifacts differently. We do not guarantee that any third party will accept, display, rank, or rely on authenticity outputs.
7.3 Your Responsibility for Claims
If you publish, label, or represent a document as “verified,” “expert,” “authentic,” or similar, you are responsible for ensuring such representations are accurate and not misleading under applicable law.
8. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for unlawful, harmful, deceptive, or fraudulent activity
- Attempt to circumvent security, access controls, rate limits, or authentication
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or other users
- Reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code except to the extent permitted by law
- Use the Service to collect data at scale from websites in violation of policies, terms, or law
- Upload or process malware, phishing content, or content designed to steal credentials
We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you violated these Terms or created risk for the Service, other users, or third parties.
9. Intellectual Property
9.1 Our IP
The Service, including software, designs, trademarks, and documentation, is owned by Editcred or its licensors and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you ownership rights in our IP.
9.2 Feedback
If you provide suggestions or feedback, you grant Editcred the right to use it without restriction or compensation.
10. Paid Features, Trials, and Billing (If Applicable)
If the Service offers paid subscriptions or one-time purchases:
- Prices, billing intervals, and renewal terms will be disclosed at purchase
- Taxes may apply
- You authorize us (and our payment processors) to charge your payment method
- Unless required by law, payments are non-refundable once processed
We may offer trials; trial terms will be disclosed at signup. If you do not cancel before trial end, your plan may convert to paid.
11. Privacy and Data Use
Our collection and use of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy available on this website and/or within the extension.
If the Service uses Google APIs to access Google user data, our use and transfer of that data will comply with Google’s API Services User Data Policy (including Limited Use requirements).
Chrome Web Store policies require developers to be transparent and to limit use of data to disclosed, user-facing purposes; we design the Service to align with these requirements.
12. Service Availability, Changes, and Updates
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service (including features, integrations, and availability) at any time. We may issue updates to the extension automatically or require you to update to continue using certain features.
13. Termination
13.1 By You
You may stop using the Service at any time. Uninstalling the extension typically removes local extension data, subject to your browser/OS behavior. If you have an account, you may request account deletion as described in the Privacy Policy.
13.2 By Us
We may suspend or terminate your access:
- If you violate these Terms
- If required by law or policy
- To protect the security and integrity of the Service or other users
13.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends. Public verification endpoints or published exports may be disabled if you delete or unpublish them (subject to caching by third parties).
